About Us
Hawai’i for a Safe Return to School is a grassroots advocacy group consisting of parents, teachers, and Hawaii residents formed with the goal of ensuring that the reopening of Hawai’i schools is done in as safely and possible, following the best advice of scientists and public health experts, and to help avoid school reopenings contributing to increased community spread of COVID-19. The current state plan does not meet CDC recommended standards, and is unsafe, and puts the lives of our community at great risk of death or permanent injury.
We propose an alternate model for school reopening that is safer, based on the best science, and will better avoid contributing to disease transmission. Our model is a four-phased approach, and the specific details can be found here.
We will be providing resources to encourage members to contact their elected state representatives to urge them to reverse this plan and develop and implement one that keeps our keiki, parents, and kupuna as safe as possible.
